Product Description

Waylande Gregory was one of the most innovative and prolific American ceramic sculptors of the early twentieth century. He was also and early seminal figure in the studio glass movement. Artistically, he helped shape much of the art-deco sculptural visual vocabulary in American art. Technically, his most direct contributions include the development of methods for the creation of monumental ceramic sculptural works and for revolutionary glazing and processing methods. Prior to Waylande Gregory, ceramic sculpture was limited in size, but he would later create the largest ceramic sculpture in history for the 1939 World’s Fair. He was commissioned to sculpt by people such as Henry Fonda, Albert Einstein, Charles Lindbergh, as well as many other prominent figures.
